SUZIE STAPLETON
SUZIE STAPLETON is an Australian-born UK-based alternative rock artist. She is known for electric live performances and poetry strewn, guitar-driven noir soundscapes that cross into gothic-blues and alt-folk.
In 2023, Stapleton appeared on The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project album “The Task Has Overwhelmed Us” (Glitterhouse Records), producing and performing alongside Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) on “Mother of Earth”, arranging several tracks including Nick Cave & Debbie Harry’s “On The Other Side”, and performing a shimmering rendition of “Secret Fires” alongside blues instrumentalist Duke Garwood. The album also feat. Mick Harvey, Warren Ellis, Lydia Lunch, Jim Jarmusch, Mark Stewart, The Coathangers, Humanist, and more
The collaboration with Dave Gahan led to an invitation to tour with Depeche Mode in March 2024. Stapleton and her band opened several arena dates on the Memento Mori World Tour in France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal playing to crowds of 15,000-20,000 each night.
Stapleton’s debut album ‘We Are The Plague’ was released in 2020 (Negative Prophet Records/Cargo Distribution). It made several Albums Of The Year lists including Louder Than War’s Top 20 who called it “A dazzling debut album of guitar rock. Blending the spirit of Patti Smith and PJ Harvey with the soul of Nick Cave and Mark Lanegan”. The album also received airplay on BBC 6, Amazing Radio, Double J, Radio Eins and more.
Stapleton self-produced the record which was mixed by Dan Cox (Thurston Moore/Laura Marling/Peter Doherty) and recorded with Gavin Jay (The Jim Jones Revue) on bass, and Jim Macaulay (The Stranglers) on drums. Stapleton’s live band includes Gavin Jay on bass and Dave Collingwood on drums.
Stapleton has opened for artists such as Mark Lanegan, The Church, and Mick Harvey, and appeared at Colours of Ostrava Festival, Liverpool Sound City, Camden Rocks Festival and more.
Stapleton is currently working on her follow up album due out in 2024. The album development was supported with funding from Arts Council UK.
