The Dizzy Brains is a garage rock band founded in Antananarivo, Madagascar, around 2011, by brothers Eddy (vocals) and Mahefa Andrianarisoa (bass), joined by Max Andriambelo, known as “Poun,” on guitar and Alban Razanaka on drums.

Influenced by their father, a guitarist and vinyl collector, the two brothers developed a sound inspired by the greats of American rock from the ’60s and ’70s—The Sonics, The Stooges, and MC5—using garage rock as a weapon to denounce injustice and express the anger of Malagasy youth. Long banned from concert venues and radio stations because of lyrics that challenge authority, they’ve built their following in the underground scene and on social media.

The turning point came in December 2015: it was the first time they had left Antananarivo, flown on a plane, and seen the ocean—all to take the stage at the Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, where they were named “Festival Revelation.” In April 2016, their appearance on *Le Petit Journal* on Canal+ skyrocketed their fame when Eddy called out the new Madagascan prime minister live on air.

This was followed by tours at the Printemps de Bourges, Solidays, MaMA Festival, and the Festival d’Été de Québec, as well as performances in France, Germany, South Korea, Wales, and Morocco.

Their discography—the EP *Vangy* and the albums *Out of the Cage*, *Tany Razana*, *Dahalo* (2021), and *Maso Mahita* (2024)—relentlessly champions the same causes: corruption, poverty, censorship, and freedom of expression in Madagascar.

In 2025, the band took a new step forward by conquering the African continent: a tour in South Africa, the Bushfire Festival in Swaziland, and then two historic concerts in Nairobi, Kenya—their first visit to the country.

Over the course of more than a decade, The Dizzy Brains have transformed the rage of an isolated island into a cry heard across four continents.
